Job Overview:
As an Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment used in construction projects, specifically in the underground utilities sector. This includes Sewer, Water, and Storm Drain systems. Your expertise in safely and efficiently operating equipment such as excavators, backhoes, loaders, and graders will be essential for the successful completion of these specialized construction projects. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety protocols.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, and graders for tasks related to underground utilities, including excavation and grading for Sewer, Water, and Storm Drain systems.
- Perform pre-operational checks, routine maintenance, and inspections to ensure equipment is safe and operational.
- Maneuver equipment in tight spaces and work collaboratively with crew members to meet project deadlines, especially in confined or underground environments.
- Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.
- Monitor equipment performance and report issues to maintenance or supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and minimize impact on surrounding areas.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment in construction, with specific expertise in underground utilities (Sewer, Water, Storm Drain).
- Strong knowledge of construction equipment and machinery, including excavators, loaders, backhoes and graders.
- Ability to perform physical tasks in all weather conditions, including extreme heat typical of the Phoenix metro area.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness for operating equipment safely and efficiently, especially in confined or underground areas.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of construction safety protocols and regulations, with a commitment to adhering to safety practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform basic maintenance.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience specifically in underground utility projects involving Sewer, Water, and Storm Drain systems.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment.
- Certification or training in equipment operation preferred.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various climate conditions, including extreme heat and occasional out-of-town work.
- Physical stamina to operate machinery for long shifts and in inclement weather.
